For the third year in a row, I am reading The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman. I love this book and its daily messages. It turns out that Emperor Marcus Aurelius could have started my LIFEies back in the early Roman days. I copied a page from the book below for you to enjoy. If you want a little Stoicism in your life, The Daily Stoic is a great start. Here are my takeaways from the May 22 post:
- Don’t live your life full of excuses – Be action orientated.
- Today is the perfect day to make that life change you’ve been wanting to do. What is one small change you can make today?
I will start with a couple I am working on right now:
- Diet. I am fasting today. And with my fasting, instead of planning lunches, I suggest a meeting at the office. I have been using this line I got from my friend and partner Steve Johnston when I go to lunch and am fasting: “I have fitness goals.”
- Mindfulness. I have inserted a ‘Take 5’ into my calendar after my last meeting and before I go home. I am usually amped up at the end of my day and find that I need to either be sedated or take 5 minutes and breathe so I can be normal Craig when I walk in the door.
Send me some hacks in your life that you have found help you make “Today the Day.”
Rule #7 from my book The Fantastic Life: Be Value Driven
We can find our values anywhere — religion, a piece of stoic wisdom, friends and family. Finding which values matter and sticking to them is the strongest way to fuel your Fantastic Life.
