I have learned that success is not all about talent or luck—it’s about showing up every day, no matter what. The best performers don’t wait for motivation—they build habits that keep them on track no matter how they feel. If you want results, commit to consistency. Once again, consistency is my word of the year for 2025. Here are a few of my takeaways:
— Do Your Hardest Tasks in the Morning: My brainpower and willpower are strongest at the start of the day—I use them to tackle my biggest challenges first. Win the morning, and I set the tone for the rest of the day. This is exactly why I hike or train early (catching sunrises). If I wait, life gets in the way.
— One Rule: No Quitting: Giving up is not an option. I love this quote: When I feel like doing the thing, I do it. When I don’t feel like doing the thing, I HAVE to do it.
— Daily Self-Reflection: Want to get better? Write it down. As Paul Graham said, “A good writer doesn’t just think, and then write down what he thought, as a sort of transcript. A good writer will almost always discover new things in the process of writing.” Journaling (or in my case, tracking) forces clarity, monitors progress, and keeps you honest with yourself. I say: all change begins with telling yourself the truth. Tracking is the truth.
Discipline beats motivation every time. Set your goals, cut the distractions, and show up—every single day. Success isn’t magic, it’s consistency. Are you in?
The Fantastic Life Rule #6:
Set Goals
If you aren’t setting goals, and then tracking your progress, how will you know how far you’ve come, or how much further you have to go? Set goals, monitor, and stack your wins.
