Failure is success in progress.” – Albert Einstein. Let’s get into it—if you want real success, you’re going to have to fail. Probably a lot.
In Part 2 of our Ten on One series, my partner Andrew Cheney finishes his conversation with longtime friend Michael Kosta. They go even deeper into what it really takes to chase your dream—and yes, it includes falling on your face.
Michael didn’t go from tennis to stand-up comedy without some tough losses along the way. But here’s what I love: he didn’t run from failure—he leaned into it. That’s where growth happens.
— Speak Your Dreams Out Loud: Before he ever stepped on stage, Michael told people he was going to be a comedian. That forced him to back it up with action. Want something? Start saying it. Out loud. To everyone.
— Failure Hurts. Do It Anyway: Michael failed and got told “no.” He had to start over. Sound familiar? Failure never feels good—but it’s the path. The difference is what you do after. Get back up. Get better. Keep going!
— You Need a Team: Comedy looks like a solo act, but Kosta built a team around him—and that’s when things took off. Same goes for us at C2. No one wins alone. Your circle matters. Build it. Nurture it. Grow it.
This isn’t theory. This is how it works. Failure isn’t a detour—it’s the road. Hit the road…hard.
P.S. — Michael’s new book Lucky Loser just dropped. It’s definitely worth your time. Buy it here!
The Fantastic Life Rule #1:
Know Your Stories
Every good story includes a moment when the hero fails, falls on his face, and reaches his lowest point. It’s what happens next that makes the story worth reading. What do your stories say about your failures?
